Prevention

No sure way exists to prevent hypoharyngeal cancer. However, if you′re concerned about your risk of hypopharyngeal carcinoma, you may consider avoiding habits that have been associated with the disease. For instance, you may:

  • Cut back on the amount of salt-cured foods you eat or avoid these foods altogether
  • Stop smoking
  • Drink alcohol in moderation, if at all

The earlier cancer is detected the better are the chances of cure and complete recovery. It is important to realize that many cancers today are curable.

If you find anything abnormal, record it on a notebook and report it to your doctor. In case everything is normal, RELAX!

Know the Causes and Risk Factors of Hypopharyngeal Cancer

Risk factors include:

  • Tobacco use (smoking or chewing)
  • Excessive use of alcohol
  • Lack of nutrients in the diet
  • Presence of Plummer-Vinson syndrome (a disorder linked to severe, long-term iron deficiency anemia)
