General Instructions for PET CT Patients

  • You are requested to arrive ½ hour before your appointment time with an attendant at the Diagnostic Imaging Front Desk.
  • You are requested to bring Imaging Consultation form for the test.
  • You are requested to deposit the cost of Radiopharmaceutical (medicine) in advance for the test.
  • You are requested your earlier reports, investigations, films and CD on the day of examination.
  • Wear loose and comfortable clothes without any metal hooks, zipper and also carry spare set of clothes with you.
  • Do not wear any jewellery and ornaments of metal or non-metal on the day of examination.
  • Do not bring children or pregnant women along with you.
  • Avoid any heavy exercises a day before your test.
  • The patient will require having 4 – 6 hours of fasting before the examination. The patient may take plain water.
  • You can take your prescribed medicine after consultation with your doctor, with plain water only.
  • Please carry your diabetic, hypertensive medicines with you, if any.
  • The blood sugar level must be controlled before the test. In case of abnormal blood glucose level on the time of test, the appointment will be cancelled and medicine cost deposited in advance will not be refunded as the hay life of medicine is 2 hours approx.
  • In case of cancellation of appointment, you are requested to inform 24 hours before the appointment time.
  • You are requested to follow the instructions given by the medical and paramedical practitioners at the time of investigation.
  • You will be administered prescribed amount of radioactive tracer (medicine) through IV cannula for the scan.
  • You will be advised to be rested for about 45 – 60 minutes in the isolation room after the injection of the medicines. During that period you are requested not to talk, read and move unnecessarily so that the medicine can be absorbed properly.
  • You can use the Toilet located in Nuclear Medicine Section.
  • You are requested not to leave the room without the permission of the staff.
  • After the test the patient can resume the normal activity and normal diet.
  • It is advisable to drink plenty of water after the test and empty bladder frequently.
  • The hospital or department is not responsible for cancellation / rescheduling of the examination due to technical reason or non-delivery of the radiopharmaceuticals (medicines) from the source.
