Nasal and Paranasal cancer Treatment

After discussion in tumour board a treatment plan is made as per patient’s needs. Most nasal and paranasal tumors, whether cancerous or not, require surgery. To remove the cancer, some of the diseased bone or nearby tissues may also warrant removal. Additional treatment for cancer may include radiation therapy, chemotherapy or both. Advanced cancer often requires reconstructive surgery.

Surgery

This surgery requires expertise & experience which is performed by -head and neck surgical oncologist with neurosurgeon, plastic surgeon, oral and maxillofacial prosthodontics to restore maximum function and appearance.

Radiation therapy

Adjuvant treatment (Radiotherapy) is given after surgery with the disease is advanced which is delivered by, intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and IGRT. These technologies allow specialists to treat the cancer effectively while limiting radiation that might adversely affect areas such as the eyes, optic nerves, brain, brainstem and spinal cord.

Dharamshila Hospital uses the third generation linear accelerator with VMAT technology with the new technology radiation dose is 1/10 of the conventional linear accelerator, therefore, side effects are minimal.

Chemotherapy

Anti-cancer drugs (chemotherapy) may be used in cases where cancer has spread. Chemotherapy may include several types of drugs that are given by mouth or put into a vein.
