HEMATOLOGY

The blood counts are done by two automated cell counters which give 5 part differential counts and 18 parameter readings. These are monitored by strict internal and external quality control programs. Special tests including bone marrow examination aided by cytochemistry are interpreted by experts. Automated coagulation tests are carried out with control runs. These tests are mandatory for leukaemia diagnosis and for post-chemotherapy follow-up of the leukemia patients and those with other malignancies. The peripheral blood and marrow slides are interpreted by expert hematopathologists.
