Radiation Oncology

Radiation therapy is the use of exact, carefully measured dose of ionizing radiation to treat diseases, primarily cancer. More than half of cancer patients require radiation therapy either with an objective of cure or with an intent of palliating the symptoms. These treatments are designed not only to reverse the progress of cancer, but also to improve the quality of life for cancer patients radiation therapy is delivered either by radiation source placed at a distance from the body (Teletherapy) or by placing the source in close proximity of the tumor (Brachytherapy) or combination of both.

Department of Radiation oncology at Dharamshila hospital and research centre started in 1994 with a Tele cobalt unit (Phoenix), Multidata treatment planning system (2DTPS). Gradually the department has evolved into a high-tech centre and is certified for implementing integrated quality and environmental management system as per ISO9001: and ISO 14001: 2004 standards.
