Role of Surgical Oncologists - Our trained and skilled Breast Cancer Surgical Oncologists play the major role while selecting the operable cases, performing a complete surgery by removing the cancerous breast with clear margins and removing all the lymph nodes. During surgery dissected specimen is sent for a frozen section to the Oncopathologist for immediate report on the margins. If the margins of the dissected breast are not free from cancer, further dissection is carried out to achieve clear margins to prevent recurrences. The quality of the surgery, determines the postoperative quality of the life of the patient.
Role of Medical Oncologists - A ‘medical oncologist‘ is the one who determines the desired chemo drug (s) (molecules), its dose, no. of cycles required and supervises the administration of chemotherapy. The medical oncologist will also have a good understanding of all the different types of breast cancer, and have an idea of the risk of recurrence and overall treatment success rates for a given presentation of breast cancer.
Role of Radiation Oncologists - Radiation oncologists are the doctors who will take care of the radiation therapy treatments. The Radiation oncologists work with the other members of the radiation therapy team to develop the best treatment plan and ensure that each treatment is given accurately. Radiation oncologist will also monitor the progress of the patient′s clinical condition and adjust the treatment as necessary to make sure the radiation is hitting its target while minimizing side effects. Before, during and after the radiation therapy treatments, our radiation oncologist works closely with other cancer doctors, such as medical oncologists and surgeons, to maximize the radiation’s effectiveness.
Role of Plastic Surgeons - After the removal of the cancerous tissues, a large gap appears, which has to be filled/reconstructed by the Plastic Surgeon so that, patient gets normal appearance.
Role of Recovery and Rehabilitation Team - Recovery and Rehabilitation Therapist will team up with the surgical oncologist to help in preventing or Minimizing lymph edema using specialized drainage techniques, stretching exercises and massages. Post-operative recovery with normal/close to normal appearance of the patient, requires a dedicated team of Critical Care Specialists, Skilled Oncology Nurses, Dieticians and Physiotherapists who work together to ensure that patient leads a normal life.
